She and my great-grandfather were married in 1899 so that makes it at least 116 years old. I treasure it, the diamond is barely visible it's so small, and the band has worn thin over the many years of their marriage (some 69 years!), I will never part with it. I was lucky enough to have both of my great-grandparents with us until I was mid-teens and I love them still.
Haven't borrowed anything for quite a long time. Dinner will be hefty cold roast beef sandwiches with tomato, cheese, coleslaw, potato chips, an ice cold lemonade and watermelon for desert. We had a hearty breakfast of homemade turkey sausages, choc chip pancakes and hot coffee, so dinner will be earlier than normal as we were all too full for lunch! It is a holiday weekend, so mom gets the lunch meal off! By the way, my daughters name is Colleen. I love that name. Her 'nickname' at her teen social program is 'Sunny' because of her usually smiling face, beautiful blonde hair and her sunny disposition (not always, but often, she is after all, a teen!). heavensheartdesignshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10128138143555547452noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7264165591669767230.post-53777239752512544202015-08-21T14:06:59.133-04:002015-08-21T14:06:59.133-04:00I have a love/disappointment relationship (well, n...I have a love/disappointment relationship (well, not really a relationship) with Stephen Colbert too. NFP is cheap, whereas birth control pills taken daily for 20+ years of a fertile life is not. It explains why my original doctor thought I was talking about the rhythm method, a.k.a. "Vatican Roulette." Sheer ignorance.Colleenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01101375558298634921noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7264165591669767230.post-67900460524851348802015-07-23T18:38:12.132-04:002015-07-23T18:38:12.132-04:00Isn't that so insulting? The implication being, "I'm so stupid that I'm going to lie about my sexual activity to someone who actually has a medical reason to know."

I hated that. I also hated the condescending attitudes when they kept asking me, "Are you on the pill? Do you want to be? Are you sure? I am pregnant with our second child rig...How funny! I am pregnant with our second child right now, and we also did not find out the gender of our first (boy), but we did this time around (another boy)!

And the same as you two again: it was my husband who wanted the big surprise when our first was born. He wanted the stereotypical, "It's A ______!" moment at delivery. But for me, even though EVERYONE had predicted we were having a boy, I found myself feeling like Alex was a stranger in those first few days after he was born (which I know is totally normal; not everybody gets the rush of love with angels singing right away). It left me wondering how much of the disconnected feeling was a result of not knowing whether he was *himself* or a girl during all those months of pregnancy.

So this time, we know it's a boy, we know his name... and we'll see if I feel any differently in the first few hours and days! (And sure, even if I do feel differently, it would likely be a coincidence. But whatever.)Jessica Carneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07636693197301731087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7264165591669767230.post-725447361603295742015-07-23T10:55:19.024-04:002015-07-23T10:55:19.024-04:00Oh my gosh, my gynecologist in college didn't ...Oh my gosh, my gynecologist in college didn't believe me when I said I was a virgin either! Two nurses and the doctor asked me twice each, and one of the nurses even thought she could trick me with, "That's a pretty ring. Did your boyfriend give it to you?" Finally I said, "I'm 20 years old, my parents aren't here, and everyone else in the world is having sex. What POSSIBLE motivation could I have to lie to you?"

I had to have progesterone with my first pregnancy too -- and I wouldn't have had reason to get tested if not for pro-life doctors who were up-to-date on my charts and foresaw a potential issue.

We always have to be our own advocates when it comes to medical issues, but never moreso than when dealing with an OB/Gyn who hasn't bothered to learn any of this stuff! It's scary!Colleenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01101375558298634921noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7264165591669767230.post-29468396306081715222015-07-23T10:48:52.416-04:002015-07-23T10:48:52.416-04:00If I'm being totally honest, at the beginning ...If I'm being totally honest, at the beginning of my journey I was kind of stoked when I thought I would be given birth control pills for a reason of medical necessity, and then get to enjoy being married for a while without "worrying about" getting pregnant. And I *could* have been on the Pill, without needing to confess it, because it is a genuine therapy for the pathology involved.

But once again, God knew better! He led me to doctors who knew a better way, and the knowledge that getting pregnant probably wouldn't be as easy as I thought led me to realize that I didn't want to put it off as much as I thought.

Best of luck to you in figuring it out! You have my prayers!Colleenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01101375558298634921noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7264165591669767230.post-22791278347565995402015-07-23T10:42:56.466-04:002015-07-23T10:42:56.466-04:00Thank you!
